Behind the Seams: How I Source My Fabrics
One of the questions I’m often asked is “Where do you get your fabrics from?” The truth is, sourcing fabric is one of my favourite parts of the creative process it’s where every Sewjackie piece begins.
I choose quality fabrics that are responsibly sourced, with most coming from local independent businesses such as Spare Moments, Sutton in Ashfield and Sewing B in Stapleford. Supporting other small businesses matters to me, and it means I know exactly where my materials come from and who I’m buying them from. There’s something really special about building those relationships and knowing that each fabric has its own story before it even reaches my sewing table.
I also keep a close eye on current fashion trends and seasonal colours, so that the designs I create feel fresh, modern, and easy to wear. Whether it’s a bold print for a twist and style wire headband or a subtle texture for an infinity scarf, I want every piece to feel both stylish and timeless.
By carefully selecting fabrics this way, I can make sure Sewjackie products aren’t just handmade they’re also thoughtfully made, with quality and sustainability at heart.
